About

Our History

Sigma’s first range of products were soakers, flashings, flues and fish smokers.  Over time as other sheet metal companies were acquired the product range has increased.

From its humble beginnings in 1997 with less than 5 staff, Sigma Sheetmetal Products now has over 40 employees and is the leading manufacturer of custom hot water cylinders in New Zealand.

1948

Sigma Sheetmetal Products ltd lineage can be traced back to Triumph Sheetmetal Works ltd founded by Jim Hinchco.

Triumph Sheetmetal Works ltd manufactured hot water cylinders in their factory located at 18 Princes street, Onehunga.

1987

Triumph Sheetmetal Works ltd was sold by the Hinchco family and became Triumph Industries.  Triumph Industries purchased various other companies at the time, one of them being Renaissance who had a varied portfolio of products including being the Apple Computer agents in New Zealand.

1994

Triumph Industries changed its name to Renaissance Corporation.

1996

Renaissance Corporation started selling off some of its business units. Mark Jorey, an employee of Renaissance Group since 1981 bought a small part of the sheetmetal business, named it Sigma Sheetmetal Products Ltd (Sigma) and setup a factory in 16a Hill street, Onehunga, around the corner from the original Triumph Sheetmetal Works factory.

1998

the Eden tool box range was integrated into the product range.

1999

the Triumph Hot Water product range was acquired by Sigma and the legacy of Triumph branded hot water cylinders being manufactured in Onehunga was revived.
